International Mother Language Day
Last Wednesday we celebrated International Mother Language Day. It started in the morning in the Early Years where parents and Grade 9 students came in to do Indian dance, the Arabic alphabet, Italian play dough pizza, Spanish fans, British bingo, German carnival etc.
In the afternoon Grades 1-9 were organised into language groups. Again, parents and Grade 9 students had prepared activities based on their language and culture. Students read, danced, played games, prepared food. The culmination of the day was the Mercado in the Old Gym, where all the groups showed their national “product”. It looked a bit like a mini International Day.
We’d like to say a big thank you again to all the volunteers for helping to make International Mother Language Day at AIS a huge success.
