From AIS With Love | Amsterdam City Swim for ALS Research
At AIS, we want to celebrate when students go above and beyond their expectations in the classroom. The promotion of our values that seek to enhance the community and world is something worth taking note of. Leaders in our community help make AIS the best it can be.
Two students, Jacky (Dutch) and Zoë (Belgian) did just that as they participated in the Amsterdam City Swim to raise money for ALS research. ALS is a degenerative motor neuron disease with no cure. The swim was 2.2km for adults and 700 meters for those under 16 who wanted to participate.
Jacky had a particular connection to the event through a family friend, Ollie, who they were swimming for. “We swam with a few friends and his family,” Jacky explained. Their team swam through the Amsterdam canals to help bring awareness and support to those with the disease and raised over €32.000. The event itself raised €1.700.000,00.
“A few people with ALS also swam,” Zoë said. “They were put on big floaties and people pushed them through the canals so they could do the swim as well.” There were also lots of people with ALS supporting from the sides as they watched the event.
Thank you, Jacky and Zoë, for bringing the values of AIS into the community and for raising awareness for such a great cause. We hope your story inspires others to join in making a difference in our world.
