Thinkers & Inquirers Showcase Held by Kindergarten and Grade 2
‘Thinkers and Inquirers: A Kindergarten and Grade 2 Learning Showcase’ was jointly hosted by Kindergarten and Grade 2 students in the STEMzone.
Both the Kindergarten and Grade 2 students embarked on a learning journey, choosing topics of interest and using questions to guide their inquiry. Approaches to Learning skills like research, thinking and self-management skills were shown as they came up with models, posters and displays that document and showcase their learning.
In Kindergarten, the students picked topics of interest and came up with three questions to guide their inquiry. The topics were varied, ranging from birds to light. Throughout the months, they did research and synthesised the information to make posters and conducted surveys. The entire class got involved and supported one another with their topics and had a lot of fun learning together.
In Grade 2, students learned about landforms, plate tectonics, natural disasters and more. To inquire into the third line of inquiry, students were asked to think about a natural disaster they would like to learn more about and to uncover how technology is used to respond to that natural disaster.
To support their inquiry, students came up with three questions that would drive their investigation. For two weeks, the students read books and watched videos from a variety of sources while taking notes. Following their research, students chose a preferred tool to share their findings and to make a model of what they had learned. It was an amazing process for the students and they were happy to take action and share their experiences and new understandings during their exhibition.
