VIDEO | Hands-on Group Project Teaches G9 Students About WWI
Grade 9 students have a better understanding of how World War I began, thanks to a hands-on and engaging assignment in their History class.
The students were split into six groups and then assigned a “country”. These nations represented the main factions in a troubled world situation. The groups were given a “World Situation Summary” that was considered public information. It explained which countries had rivalries, information about their militaries, what goods are produced there and other national statistics.
Then, in rounds, each group was given private information and it was up to them to make alliances/agreements with other countries involved. At the end of the assignment, the groups then announced their intentions to stay peaceful or declare war.
