June 17, 2021

Grade 5 is the final year of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and also when students complete an extended, in-depth, collaborative project called the PYP Exhibition. This year, students tackled topics related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The students worked in groups and tackled these issues: gender equality, climate change, ocean pollution, endangered animals, health and well-being, sustainable homes and sustainable fashion. The entire class was able to take a field trip to Antwerp’s historic centre to brainstorm ideas for PYP exhibition.

PYP EXHIBITION 2021

During the PYP exhibition, Grade 5 students must work collaboratively to conduct an in-depth inquiry into real-life issues or problems and then share their work with the school community. This also gives teachers a powerful and authentic process to assess student understanding. PYP exhibition is a unique and significant opportunity for students to exhibit the attributes of the IB learner profile, which aims to develop learners who are:

  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

PYP Exhibition is also a great opportunity for students to celebrate the transition from the Primary Years Programme to the Middle Years Programme.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

All members of a group are responsible for creating:

  • a written component
  • a website
  • a performance component
  • an artefact component
  • an action component

This year students held their final presentations in their classroom with their classmates as the live audience, but family members could join online. Members from each group presented separately.
